The Holy Episcopal Synod

The Episcopal Synod, led by the Catholicos as its president, serves as the highest authority within the church, bringing together all bishops under a single, unified body. This Synod is tasked with safeguarding the church’s spiritual integrity, ensuring that the faith, traditions, and principles handed down through Apostolic Succession are upheld with unwavering commitment. The decisions of the Synod are final and binding, making it the ultimate decision-making body in matters concerning the church’s doctrine, discipline, and spiritual direction.

While the Episcopal Synod governs the church’s spiritual affairs, the Malankara Syrian Christian Association plays a key role in guiding the church’s temporal and administrative matters. This collaboration ensures a balanced approach to church governance, where spiritual leadership and practical decision-making work hand in hand. The Association’s involvement provides a platform for the laity to engage in the governance process, creating a structure that is inclusive and participatory while maintaining the core values of the faith.

The bishops, who are part of the Episcopal Synod, are each entrusted with the responsibility of leading a specific diocese. These assignments are made by the Synod itself, ensuring that every diocese is overseen by a bishop who can effectively shepherd the faithful, provide pastoral care, and administer the spiritual and operational needs of the region. Through their leadership, the bishops maintain the church’s unity and continuity, while also addressing the unique needs of their dioceses in alignment with the broader vision of the church.
